Pavilion of Regenerative Practice

Working for the first time with the collective Common Practice, we designed and built a temporary pavilion for Bridport Town of Culture 2024. The pavilion was intended to work as a communal meeting area for residents as well as a venue and stage for open air film screenings and music events.

The final design brought together a palette of regenerative materials: clay from the Marshwood Vale to build rammed earth foundations; recently felled oak from a nearby housing development for the seating; and shading and structural timber from the local Eggardon Sawmill for the main frame.

The pavilion was planned and constructed in three weeks in August 2024 and was helped along by volunteers with wide ranging skills from architects, furniture designers, carpenters, joiners, seamstresses and many more.
