ARCHITECTURE
Florence
Medieval Florence, Renaissance Florence, Ancient Roman Florence, it is a city of myriad changes and additions. It covers a tiny area but is so rich that months are not enough time to uncover all of the treasures this simply beautiful city has to offer.
Syon House, London
The Duke of Northumberland’s southern seat, Syon House has existed on this site since the reign of Elizabeth I. The 18th Century brought Robert Adam to Syon, commissioned with the remodelling of the interiors. His neo-classical designs greet the visitor on entering the Great Hall.
The Duomo, Florence
Still to this day, a partly unsolved design mystery, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore looms large over Florence. Glimpsed through narrow streets, punctuating the skyline seen from the surrounding hills and overshadowing from directly below, it is truly remarkable.
Piazza della Santissima AnnunziatA, Florence
Directly north of the Duomo complex lies this comparatively peaceful piazza. With Brunelleschi’s early Renaissance, Ospedale degli Innocenti to the east and Basilica della Santissima Annunziata to the north, the piazza is a rare open, sunlit filled space within the medieval city.
Warham and Binham, North Norfolk
A searingly hot day in August left Binham Priory and Warham Church on the North Norfolk coast sullen and oppressed. The dry grasses and their rustling the only noises to be heard in the sultry atmosphere.
Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge
Jim and Helen Ede’s collection is perfectly preserved at Kettle’s Yard. Their exacting curation remains and is seamless. Long since Helen and Jim would let students in every afternoon, there remains an inviting feeling to the space. One and all are welcome to appreciate this collection.
Tudor Manor House
Long left alone decaying prior to its recent works, the manor once housed Henry VIII on his trips to a nearby pilgrimage site. He visited with his first wife Catherine of Aragon and later Anne Boleyn. Ornately detailed, the complex of buildings is truly staggering with, most strikingly a turreted gatehouse flanked by exquisitely shaped topiary.
Paris
Alongside the street wanderings, time spent in the Ecole des Beaux Arts was so rewarding. The bright and colourful designs and painting is shown in this black and white series but the statuary could be better captured. Chicago’s ‘Cell Block Tango’ came to mind….Pop, Six, Squish, Uh oh, Cicero, Lipschitz
Cley-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Cley’s mercantile past and its specific local brick and flint vernacular makes the village a wonderful local time capsule and architectural curiosity. Whalebone House as seen above is just one example of the treasure trove that is this small village.
LANDSCAPE
Spring
The blossom in the very early morning light, seemed to spring forth like never before and the late afternoon created intricate shadows for the slowly artichoke leaves.

Calabria, Italy
Summers spent in the searing Calabrian heat. Long siestas of boredom allowed time for us to sneak about admiring the exotic flora lying just below the Sila mountains to the north.
Tuscany
September, October, November; autumn in Tuscany is a time to be cherished. Frolicking in the fig trees, perusing for persimmon, truffling for truffles, it is a rich rich place at a rich time of year.
The Garden
Up close and personal with the flowers, leaves and their shadows in the late afternoon light. Artichoke leaves unravelling alongside daffodils and hellebores still in full bloom.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS AVAILABLE
North Norfolk
A calm and bright morning on a North Norfolk common. The dew resting on the spiders webs looping from blade to blade. A precarious balancing act, but with no one yet awake, nothing had been disturbed.
Scorched Earth
The summer of 2018 is literally seared on our memories. The endless heat and the languor of the summer months. This series captures a small fragment of meadowland on those long lazy days.
